Hello there! Welcome to Capitol City Eats. I'm Shuo. By day, I'm a new pediatrician-in-training in Washington, and I love my job. By night, and whenever I'm not in the hospital, I travel, I eat, and I write. And I'm always looking for new foods to try and places to visit.
The idea for this blog began a few years ago in Chicago, way back in med school. If you know anyone who's been through the process of becoming a doctor, you likely have some idea of the stress and hard work involved. For me, studying for board exams and grinding out each grueling day on the wards as a third-year student were especially tough. On one particularly tough call night in the hospital, I half-awakenly decided at 3am that I needed a hobby. Feeling the pain of hunger gnawing at me, annoyingly reminding me that normal people don't spend 30 hours awake at a time, I resolved to try as many new restaurants as humanly possible.
Hundreds of restaurants and thousands of meals later, I'm fortunate both to have found a new life passion, and to have done so without gaining any weight =). Now that I'm moving to a new city, I'm incredibly stoked to start all over in a brand new environment, with new foods, cultures, and friends. So, without further ado, I invite you to come along and explore the Washington food scene with me!
ps - since I won't be moving out of Chicago for another couple of months, some of the reviews posted here will be of Chicago restaurants, at least until June. Maybe it'll give you some impetus to visit the Second City!
